April 2023: Mitchell Lake
Audubon Center
On April 15, our team took a Saturday to volunteer at the Mitchell Lake Audubon Center. Team members assisted in wetland and woodlands maintenance, as well as with mulching, brush clean-up, fence repair, and at the pollinator garden.

The mission of Mitchell Lake Audubon Center is to connect people to nature through conservation and community education focused on birds and their habitats.
​
From its inception in 2004, Mitchell Lake Audubon Center welcomes visitors to its refuge & invites them to participate in nature education programs. This innovative approach—preserving open space not just to protect wildlife & native habitat from people, but to actively engage people in its conservation through learning & exploration—served as a model for Audubon and other nature education centers nationwide and influenced the development of place-based experiential learning as a highly effective pedagogical practice.
March 2023: Respite Care
of San Antonio
On St. Patrick's Day, several Zachry Hotels team members volunteered at the Respite Care of San Antonio. The goal of the day was to help support their mission of protecting, loving, building trust & nurturing the growth of children with special needs. It was truly a touching, rewarding & memorable experience.

Respite Care of San Antonio is the only organization in Texas that provides childcare services as well as state-licensed residential homes for children with complex medical conditions. RCSA cares for children with special needs and complex medical conditions, such as congenital birth defects (e.g., spina bifida, Down syndrome, and heart defects), neonatal abstinence syndrome, fetal drug syndrome, abusive head trauma, cerebral palsy, and autism. For the last 35 years, RCSA has helped thousands of families with respite care, strengthening the family bond, and helping their child reach new milestones!
January 2023: United Way
Zachry Hotels team members raised $10,142 for the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County. Additionally, Mr. David Zachry matched this contribution and a grand total of over $20,000 was donated to the organization.

The United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County focuses on uniting the community to uplift the lives of children, students, families and individuals and to provide safety net services in times of crisis.
December 2022: Blue Santa
For over 10 years, Zachry Hotels has participated in the Blue Santa initiative. Through the month of November and December, our hotel team members donate new and unused toys to be distributed to the less fortunate in the San Antonio community. This is our small way of making the holidays a little brighter for our neighbors.

What is Blue Santa?
As night fell on Christmas Eve 1976, San Antonio police officer, Tom Preston and a few of his fellow officers began what would become another warm tradition of giving in our city. Preston knew of several families who could not afford toys under their tree. That is, if they had a tree at all. With their own money, they purchased and distributed toys to underprivileged boys and girls who would not soon forget the day a police officer became their personal Santa. A few years later, as the project drew the interest of more and more officers, someone suggested that Preston dress up as Santa himself. A navy outfit was tailored and San Antonio’s Blue Santa was born.
June 2022: Project Cool
Summer months - June through August - inflict considerably high temperatures and humidity in San Antonio. Seniors living in homes without air conditioning or circulating air face a greater risk of heat-related injuries and fatalities during the summer.

Since 2013, Zachry Hotels and our team members have partnered with the City of San Antonio to contribute to Project Cool's mission of providing heat relief to senior residents 60 years of age and older across the city through donation 20-inch box fans to seniors in need.
